A mind map is one effective way to get started! There a few free website that that can help you get your ideas created.

I find mind-maps effective because it organizes your ideas. If you have a hard time figuring out what type of logos to create, think about various topics. I had my 9th graders put together a box of topics and we will randomly choose one to create a logo or flyer.

It is true when they say practice makes perfect. You can always search inspiration but NEVER steal someone's design. I want to share with you what my first logo looked like a year ago compared to today.
